Short Description of the Workshop:

The purpose of this workshop is to provide superior and advanced information and strategies about postdoctoral fellowships and the value it adds to an academic career. This workshop have been developed to train participants in skills that are not traditionally taught in higher education.

The format will be both didactic utilizing PowerPoint slides to disseminate content and interactive with specified times for group interaction and discussion. Also, Top Hat, a student engagement platform will be used to elicit information from workshop participants to ignite dialogue.

Participants can expect to gain content that comprises the definition and description of postdoctoral fellowships; identify pros and cons, gain strategies to land postdoctoral fellowships, description of the postdoc application and interview process, transitioning from the postdoc to a faculty appointment, and hands-on details from my postdoc story and what I learned during my postdoctoral fellowship.

Presenter Bios:

Dr. Camille R. Quinn is a clinical scholar in the fields of Black adolescent girls and young women’s’ health/mental health equity and the development of tailored interventions to promote wellness and crime desistance. She is an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University, College of Social Work, and she has authored several publications on African American girls’ correlates of health and mental health disparities associated with their justice-involvement with a focus on their rehabilitation and treatment. She leads a project with Franklin County Juvenile Court and the City of Columbus, who is funding it to reduce their stress and promote healing and crime desistance with Black girls and their parents/caregivers. Dr. Quinn is a recognized youth expert in Ohio, and she provided expert testimony for state legislative action, including the passage of SB 256 (January 2021) mandating parole eligibility review for juveniles sentenced to life without parole. She was reappointed to the Governor’s Council on Juvenile Justice Statewide Advisory Group and is an invited member of the Ohio Supreme Court Sub-committee for Juvenile Justice. She also completed a National Institute of Mental Health T32 postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry from 2014-2016.
